Mansergh Hall Farm Hog Roast is a small, family business – Simon and Amanda are a husband-and-wife team who take care and attention to deliver the best.
Amanda’s family have farmed at Mansergh Hall since the 1800s. James, Amanda’s brother (with his wife Catherine) are the 6th generation to take pride in being custodian of the small but beautifully formed 160 acres nestled in the Lune Valley, in south Cumbria. James and Amanda’s dad, and Simon’s Father-in-law (Jim) farmed at Mansergh Hall for over 50 years and was a pioneer by diversifying into direct selling his produce to the public, restaurants and shops in the early 1990’s. Amanda worked with her dad from the outset with Simon joining the business in 2009. A hugely successful business which was known for its exceptional quality, sustainable farming practices, and farm to fork ethos; building on this reputation Jim, Amanda and Simon tentatively embarked on a hog roast business alongside the fresh produce.
In 2015, thinking of the future the family farm changed direction; Jim and James also set out on a new venture – milking sheep. Meanwhile, Jim, Amanda and Simon looked to their work/life balance and decided to focus on the growing and popular slow cooked Hog Roast element of the business, with the farm produce sold directly to local award-winning butchers, as well as supplying our hog roast.
Sadly, Jim passed away very suddenly in 2016, which was a shock to all. This meant the family were thrown into a farm succession plan that wasn’t quite ready and over three years, took many twists and turns. Having to adapt and remain resilient to survive, James finally took on the tenancy of Mansergh Hall Farm in December 2019 and established the brand Love Ewe Dairy in 2020.
Now, we as a family we continue to build on our family farming, and business legacy. All the pork we slow roast for Mansergh Hall Farm Hog Roast are from our farm and cared for by James, with help from Simon, and since 2022 we have slow roasted our pork at our base less than 2 miles from Mansergh Hall Farm.
