Our programme of hedging has started again for this winter. It
has been slow going so far though as the heavens and wind take their
toll on the hedges, and James!
Improvements have been made on the lane approaching the farm. For
years we have battled with the damage the rain water does to our
lane. In December James removed the fencing along the lane and we
had a very skilled gentleman come along and create a camber so the
water runs off and doesn’t collect in ever deepening puddles. This
has been tested over the last week and seems to be working. People
ask why we don’t tarmac the lane - the reason is that the are
several water pipes under the lane and we need access to them.
Stone/gravel is easier to dig up than lifting tarmac. The next stage
is to plant trees along the sides of the lane and insert cattle
grids. |
