Mansergh Hall is now farmed by the fourth and fifth generation
of the Hadwin family, with their eldest son James now managing
the farm with his father. Jim and Wendy have four children all
of whom are involved with Mansergh Hall Farm Shop to different
degrees, and their partners are also roped in!!
We work as a team and are committed and proud to providing
our customers with the finest organically reared produce.
Jim and Wendy Hadwin
The bosses!! What more can we say, other than it was Jim's
foresight back in the late 1980s to be trained by a local butcher
and provide whole and half lambs for the freezer that started
the ball rolling. Mocked by other farmer's at the time, especially
when the old dairy was converted into the farm shop in 1995,
there are many that have followed his lead into this kind of
diversification. We are very proud of what he has achieved to
date, and long may it continue!!
James Hadwin and Catherine Mason
Raised at Mansergh Hall James is the eldest son and now lives
in Kirkby Lonsdale with his partner Catherine. James is at the
heart of the business (and has been since he could walk) doing
a bit of everything but his main roles are to manage the farm,
with his father, work in the farm shop alongside Simon, as well
as focusing on his pig farming. Catherine has a full-time job
elsewhere but can often be found helping James on the farm and
at our promotional events such as shows.
Simon and Amanda Gorton
Amanda is the eldest of the Hadwin children and now lives
in Kirkby Lonsdale with husband Simon (our shop manager) and
1 year old daughter Emma. Simon has been our shop manager and
butcher since 2001. Amanda has been involved with the business
since it started, helping her Dad aged 13 to pack the lamb for
the freezer, having run the shop for a number of years with
Jim once Simon took over her role is now behind the scenes.
Amanda's main role is now in the office.
Samantha and James Millar
Samantha is the youngest daughter and now lives with her
husband James near Newcastle. Both have full-time jobs elsewhere
but often have a key role at our promotional events such as
shows and farmers markets, as well as behind the scenes.
Ben
Ben is currently studying for his A' levels but is called
upon if he's needed either on the farm or in the shop - he's
a very useful person to have around!
